Recruiting for Diary Studies on Respondent

How do I complete a diary study on Respondent?

Written by Jeremy Katzman

Diary Studies are a form of unmoderated project that requires a participant to keep a log (or a “diary”) as they perform specific tasks throughout the duration of the study. But you already knew that!

Here's how you can manage your diary study in 5 easy steps:

Set your project type to Diary Study

Respondent allows researchers to recruit participants for Diary Studies. We recommend including in your project description the duration and frequency of the project (i.e. 4 weeks, weekly check-ins).

Think about how many payments you’d like to send throughout your project

Respondent allows researchers to send a single payment to each participant for completing a project. In other words, you can only send one payment per project. If you’d like to send multiple payments throughout the duration of your Diary Study, you can create separate projects for each milestone within your study. You can utilize the Participant Database and shareable links to facilitate inviting your Diary Study participants into the next project milestone where they can be paid.

Invite participants to join your Diary Study Tool

When sending an invitation to the participant, include the link to your research tool. Respondent lets you invite participants into any of your research tools like Dscout, Figma, and Qualtrics, to name a few. Participants will follow the link you provide and join your project outside of the Respondent platform.

If you decide to keep your diary study on Respondent, you can utilize the Messages center to correspond with participants. Here researchers and participants can share links and upload files.

Pay the participant at milestone completion

Once participants have completed the project milestone, you can send them the payment. Remember, only one payment can be sent per project. If you have created multiple projects for each milestone you can mark participants as attended and pay them for each project milestone complete. If you’ve only created one project you should mark them as attended if they have completed the entire Diary Study.

Invite them for a follow up study

Using our participant database, it’s really easy to invite your participants to a follow up project. Once you have published your new project, go to the Participant Database, search the participant and invite them to your follow up study. It’s that easy!

How to reach Respondent Support:

1. Start a chat with our Support Team directly from the chat support "bubble" in the bottom right hand corner of your screen (when logged into the Respondent platform). From there, our AI auto-help agent will immediately begin assisting you!

2. Our Support queues are monitored by real humans Monday through Friday, from 11:30 AM Eastern US until 7:30 PM Eastern US, excluding US federal holidays. Please allow more time for our assistance on Monday's and following US federal holidays, as we will be working to get caught up across all pending requests. There is no need to duplicate your outreach or send multiple follow ups, we will be with you as soon as we can!

3. In the event our AI auto-help agent is unable to resolve your issue, or answer your question, simply ask to speak to a human or select the "Talk to a Human" option at anytime and your thread will be escalated for a team member to review.

4. In the event the chat service is down or otherwise unresponsive, please email support@respondent.io as a backup option to reach our team. In order to keep queues organized and our follow up as efficient as possible, please only reach out via one method (either in-app Support Chat or email). Thank you!

We look forward to helping you! Thanks for being the best part of Respondent!
