Is Respondent legit and safe?

Respondent is a legit, safe place to do paid research. You get paid through Tremendous after the researcher marks you as attended.

What Respondent is

Respondent is a platform that matches participants to high-quality paid research studies. Researchers are responsible for selecting participants for their research studies based on the participants' responses to the screener. Payments are processed on-platform and subsequently disbursed through Tremendous once attendance has been verified.

On-platform payments

  • When you’re paid: after the researcher confirms you attended/completed.

  • How you’re paid: you’ll receive a Tremendous email to redeem your incentive.

  • Typical timing: 7–10 business days from confirmation (weekends/holidays excluded).

  • Status you’ll see: Paid in your dashboard.

Never do this:

  • Send/accept off-platform payments (cash apps, wires, crypto, gift cards).

  • Pay to join a study or buy equipment “to qualify.”

  • Share bank passwords, SSNs, or other sensitive info outside the platform.

Privacy & Personal Identifiable Information (what to share vs. not share)

  • Share only what’s needed for the screener or session (role, industry, tools, usage).

  • Don’t post sensitive PII (full SSN, full bank numbers, home address)

  • Recordings & NDAs: some sessions are recorded or require NDAs, so ask before you consent and don’t share session content externally.

  • Message in the project thread and keep communication and files on the platform.

Red flags to watch for:

  • Off-platform payment requests or links.

  • Requests to pay upfront or “purchase gift cards to get reimbursed.”

  • “Pre-work” that mimics paid work without compensation.

  • Requests to install unknown software, share remote-desktop access, or upload IDs outside the platform.

  • Pressure to share sensitive PII “to speed things up.”

If you see any of these, stop and report it to support@respondent.io

How to report a concern (fast path)

  1. Open the project in your dashboard and copy the project link.

  2. Message the researcher in-thread if it’s a minor clarification.

  3. For any suspicious activity, please get in touch with support@respondent.io

Compliance & Certifications

  • SOC 2 (Independent Audit Attestation): We maintain SOC 2 compliance and can provide our most recent attestation upon request.

  • GDPR & CCPA compliant: Our security and privacy pages outline our compliance with GDPR (EU) and CCPA (California).

Code of Conduct Basics

  • Show up and communicate. If you’re running late, message in the project thread.

  • Be honest, no impersonation, duplicate accounts, or AI-generated answers.

  • Be respectful and follow rules. Honor NDAs; don’t record or share session content without permission.

  • Stay on the platform. Keep messages and payments through Respondent; never pay to join.

  • Protect your info. Share only what’s necessary and avoid sensitive PII like whole SSNs, bank numbers, or home addresses.

  • See something suspicious? Stop and report it.

How to reach Respondent Support:

1. Start a chat with our Support Team directly from the chat support "bubble" in the bottom right hand corner of your screen (when logged into the Respondent platform). From there, our AI auto-help agent will immediately begin assisting you!

2. Our Support queues are monitored by real humans Monday through Friday, from 11:30 AM Eastern US until 7:30 PM Eastern US, excluding US federal holidays. Please allow more time for our assistance on Monday's and following US federal holidays, as we will be working to get caught up across all pending requests. There is no need to duplicate your outreach or send multiple follow ups, we will be with you as soon as we can!

3. In the event our AI auto-help agent is unable to resolve your issue, or answer your question, simply ask to speak to a human or select the "Talk to a Human" option at anytime and your thread will be escalated for a team member to review.

4. In the event the chat service is down or otherwise unresponsive, please email support@respondent.io as a backup option to reach our team. In order to keep queues organized and our follow up as efficient as possible, please only reach out via one method (either in-app Support Chat or email). Thank you!

We look forward to helping you! Thanks for being the best part of Respondent!
