Oftentimes, research projects have quotas for different segments within their overall target number of completes. Quotas & Segmentation can be necessary for a variety of data points within research projects.

Segmenting Your Project by Demographics

Respondent makes it easy to segment your studies. "Segmenting your project" means breaking your study into smaller, more focused studies. For example, let's stay you're looking for:

  • Ten 18-35 year olds and fifteen 36-54 year olds

  • 50/50 mix of Gender

  • A mix of geographical regions

To ensure you meet this demographic quota, you can segment your study into 2 projects. The dependent variable here is Age.

You could further segment this project into 4 groups by Gender and Age

You should start with a master project that has the initial audience and screener questions completed. When you're ready, Copy the project and update the Audience to reflect your segment.

Using Exported Responses to Meet Your Project Quotas

Sometimes you need to meet quotas based on use cases. For example:

  • A mix of those who work in an office vs. working from home

  • Recruit 5 users of product X and 5 users of competitor brands Y or Z

  • Half the users must have at least 3+ years of experience with either product

The best way to find these users is to set up your project screener that will have each identify their work environment (home or office), which product(s) they use, and their years of experience.

Once you've received your responses you can Export All responses. Go to the Participants tab and click Export All.

Open the CSV into your spreadsheet. Start sorting the values for candidates who meet your ideal quota mix.

Now, all that's left to do is Invite qualifiers to your study on Respondent.io!
